This movie was actually a remake of the classic "My Friend Flicka". I went and saw it with my family last Friday because my mom and aunt are obsessed with Tim McGraw who plays the father in the film. So here's my little review of it:
Flicka
Cast: Alison Lohman, Tim McGraw, others
Setting: The northern country of the US on a horse ranch
Story: A 16-year-old girl, Lohman, finds a wild horse, or Mustang, on her family's ranch when she comes home from her boarding school for the summer. She decides to keep her and train her to be able to ride. She names her Flicka, which means pretty girl. However, she recently failed her final exam and her dad isn't too happy with her plus he's overprotective. Her dad, McGraw, is determined to keep her away from Flicka but by the story's end, the horse has captured everyone's hearts.
Overview: With some adventure, family drama, tear-jerking scenes, and genuine heart-pounding events, Flicka seems to have it all. I'd say the movie is probably geared towards the pre-teen age group but anyone can enjoy it, especially if you love horses. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did!
Facts: The movie's theme song "My Little Girl" was written by co-star Tim McGraw and it's a very beautiful, touching country song. I listen to it on my iPod all the time. Also, Alison Lohman plays a 16 year old but she's really 27!
Fun Bonus: Tim McGraw fans get to see him clean-shaven without his usual goatee and beard!
My Rating: 4 / 5 stars
